For future adopters

How adoption works, for candidates

Here's the path from sending a request to your welcome home, step by step.

  1. Step 1

    Request sent

Fill out a short form: a message to the caretaker, your housing situation, whether you have other animals, your experience with cats, and how many hours a day the cat would be alone. All of this arrives right away, with no cost or obligation.

  2. Step 2

    Review

Your request stays „Pending” while the caretaker considers the applications. If they message you, that's a good sign, but nothing is decided yet. If the caretaker chooses someone else, we'll let you know right away; it usually means someone is a more practical fit right now, not that you weren't good enough.

  3. Step 3

    Meet in person

You get a notification that you're the leading candidate and you arrange a real meeting with the caretaker (and the cat!) through messages; a chance for both of you to be sure it's the right choice, before anything is final.

  4. Step 4

    Welcome home

You get a congratulations that the adoption is confirmed; welcome to your new home with your new family member!

Frequently asked questions

What if nobody chooses me?

It's completely normal for a caretaker to choose someone else; it usually means a better fit for the current circumstances, not a judgment of you as a person. Feel free to browse other cats and send a new request.

Can I apply for the same cat again after being rejected?

Yes. If something changes on your side (e.g. you now have more time at home), you can send a request for the same cat again.

How long does it usually take for a caretaker to reply?

It depends on the caretaker; some reply the same day, others need more time. If a while goes by with no reply, feel free to send a short message to check whether the cat is still available.

Can I change my mind after being chosen?

Yes. Right up until the caretaker confirms the adoption, both you and the caretaker can cancel the reservation with no consequences.

Why are there both „Adoption request” and „Send a message”?

A message is for a no-obligation question before you decide. A request is the official, structured way for the caretaker to learn about your home and experience before making a decision; both lead to the same goal, just at different moments.
